Mayor’s Celebratory Coronation Lunch

A group of lucky elderly members of Kensington were invited to the Mayor’s Parlour to celebrate the 60th Anniversary of the Queen’s Coronation. The idea inspired by Jim Babbington of the Mayor’s Office, saw the newly elected Mayor of Kensington & Chelsea, Cllr. Charles William, and his wife June, the Mayoress, host a TV screening of the service followed by lunch afterwards. In his speech Charles asked those present who might have been at the Coronation – the majority of the room had either attended in person, or had surrounded a TV bought specially for the occasion. One elderly lady lamented that she’d been ‘in darkest Africa’ at the time and so couldn’t watch it, but rather had to listen to proceedings on a very cranky radio. The admiration for the Royal Family was evident although some choices of hats/attire were commented on!
